Chillcotins Day Trip

With the physio telling me that I was at 80% I went out for a xc ride later that day and felt better than I thought I would. The bike had a rest for the next few days and then at 10:30 at night I got the call to get ready as there was a Chilcotins ride happening tomorrow. For those who don't know the Chilcotins. The Chilcotins region of British Columbia is located between the Coast Mountains and the Central Interior of the Province. You can Float plan into the Tyax lodge and Drive two different ways to Tyax. From Whistler its around a 2:30 drive up over the Hurley. 5:30 the alarm rings and its time to get up for another adventure for the weekend.
We were at the drop off point at around and on the bikes around 10:30. Sunny time and good times fallowed!
Always ready to get rid of a branch/tree!
All smiles when you are in the Chilcotins!
Shane having a go on my bike and he was rather stoked on how much fun the Element msl 70 is.
Top of the world. Well it felt like it that's for sure after a solid push up to the saddle. We had a great crew come up and we went from 8 to 19 people in a group. Never a dull moment with these guys just a fun happy bunch that makes the ride even better.
Our ride up past Taylor Cabin led us into yet another long epic climb that is climbable if you have the power. We all gave it crack but no one made it as there was plenty more riding to be done. As you are so remote out here some times you don't want to make the climb because you need to save energy to last the entire journey.
Looking back at the climb.
Still a bit of snow at the top of windy pass but the sun was nice enough to poke its head out.
Josh the man that can sleep anywhere. I have no Idea how he does it but he does!
Just to prove that I was out on the bike and not spending all my time behind the camera.
Its all about the Wildflowers up here!

Should you come up here for a ride! 4 shaw you should any one who makes the trip to whistler has to try and fit this in to there diary!
Just another typical view whilst you have a break and take in all of the Chilcotins wonders.
The descent out of windy pass is amazing and makes it super hard to stop and take pictures. We chose to ride it and put the camera away so we could keep the flow and take all in.
Shale slopes that will be waiting for the next adventure.
Getting the trucks all packed up and ready for the drive home from the epic day trip!
With my second ride under my belt I'm getting that riding felling back and will be back firing on all cylinders in a few more weeks. The road is only going to get faster and funner from here on in.

  1. Luke - great pics, thanks for sharing! Also a big thanks from our group to you, Matt and the rest of the staff at Arbutus for the great bike rentals, expert service and cheery disposition. With any luck we'll be back next summer for another Whistler adventure. - Scott and Co from California
